How it started
Jen and Erikka met when Jen was running down a hallway one day carrying a frantically flapping bird that had been trapped in their workspace. They got to know each other when Erikka efficiently and empathetically evicted someone they found sleeping on a couch. Since then they have become good friends, and have learned to trust and respect each other’s views on life, love, business, and all the rest of the toxic sludge that comes our way.
Meet the hosts
Erikka
Erikka has a Master’s in Industrial Organizational Psychology and a PhD in Smart Assery. With a long resume in operations, HR, payroll, and management, she’s seen it all—especially the nonsense. Whether she’s optimizing workflows or rolling her eyes at corporate absurdity, Erikka brings sharp wit, real talk, and just enough professionalism to keep things (mostly) appropriate.
Jen
Jen has done it all—operations, accounting, event management, and more—while surviving (and laughing at) toxic workplaces along the way. Currently finishing her Post-Baccalaureate CPA program, she brings sharp wit and practical insight to That Toxic Life. Off the mic, she’s happiest with a strong coffee, a clean spreadsheet, and reminding people that HR is not their therapist.
Our Mission
At That Toxic Life, we believe that sharing the unspoken realities of work—especially the toxic, dysfunctional, and downright absurd parts—is more than just venting. It’s a path to healing, growth, and reclaiming your power.
Through real stories, hard-earned wisdom, and a healthy dose of sarcasm, we shine a light on the kind of workplace experiences that leave people burned out, gaslit, or just plain fed up. Whether it’s navigating toxic leadership, setting boundaries, or figuring out when it’s time to quit—we’re here to talk about it.
Our goal is to validate what you’ve been through, offer perspective from both inside and outside the system, and give you practical tools to survive (or escape) the mess with your sanity and self-worth intact. We’ve been there. We’ve learned a few things. And now we’re passing it on—with honesty, humor, and zero corporate filters.
